FUSUMA

The old custom of painting fusuma to add color to life can be traced to the Japanese historical places. Fusuma is not only an interior but also a beauty of japanese art.

Fusuma are a type of sliding door used as a separation between two rooms or as a closet door. They are opaque and are usually covered with a decorative paper. Fusuma usually run in a top and bottom track and are very light weight. They are usually used as pairs, or pairs of pairs. We must remember that fusuma were also used as decorations to adorn living spaces.

The custom of painting fusuma to add color to life can be traced to the Japanese historical places. Interior decorations were ingeniously crafted to display the status and rank of the samurai household. A good example of this kind of work was to take the continuous fusuma that encircled a great hall and use it as a single canvas to paint a brilliant scene in vibrant colors and gold leaf.
For a Fusuma, you are able to choose a decorative paper ( if used as a door between rooms, you may choose a decorative paper for both sides). Another beautiful decorative element to Fusuma are the door pulls or “Hikite”. We have a large selection of decorative papers and Hikites. You will be able to design your own ONE-OF-THE-KIND FUSUMA at sannaka-WEST. Decorative Paper and Hikite samples are available at sannaka-WEST showroom.
