TATAMI

Tatami is a unique green product feeling warm in the winter while cooler in the summer. The natural characteristic of IGUSA (rush) provides the best comfort adaptable to humidity atmosphere, suitable for many purposes of living and decoration, flooring, bedding (w/ futon) to exercising (Judo). Its moderate hardness also contributes to the good health of waist and backbone for sleeping on. Moreover, its natural scent has a great effect of relaxation and aromatherapy, and also provides freshness in air.

The history of Tatami
Dated back to the 710AD when the Japanese Emperor Shoumu first used Tatami as a bed. However, there were rules governing the use of Tatami for different social ranking by the different thickness of the tatami mat and edge colors. At that time, only the Emperor used the best silk fabric for the edge decoration.

Our Tatami product

We plant “Igusa” rush in Japan. Tatami rush or “Igusa” as it is called by the Japanese was originally developed over 1,000 years ago. Similar to rice, so we plant and grow Igusa. Planting takes place at the beginning of the rainy season and a good rush takes 6 months to grow. The “Igusa” plant is not really affected by insects or plant diseases.

Easy way to care and maintain for long lasting Tatami mats, Tatami mat is surprisingly durable and easy to clean, requiring only a damp cloth to wipe off stains and let the products perfectly dry. Just hang to dry. The color does not easily fade, as long as the product is not exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time Shoes or even house slippers are not worn on Tatami mat, and furniture with salted or barred legs is recommended to prevent marks from being made on the mat. It should be noted that Tatami mat is neither fire-resistant nor stain-resistant. Although Tatami mat may be used outside, it should be brought indoors after use. It is recommended to keep Tatami mat in an airy dry place.
