SENDAI TANSU

Kesakichi Yaegashi
Kesakichi Yaegashi is one of two industrial artists in Japan who succeed
traditional sendai-tansu technique. He has engaged in this industry for over
40 years and has been well established.

Our sendai-tansu is painted with Japanese lacquer over 40 times,
which took over 2 months. Also for the metal parts, in order for him to ”
curve one piece of hardware, it took about 5-8 weeks. KIKU
(chrysanthemum), which is used for this chest as a main theme,
is depicted on Japan’s imperial weapon and flag. KIKU is one of
the most famous and beautiful flowers in Japan. Also, there is a
national festival devoted to the flower (9th Sept).
